How we test
Testing is under way. Until a product has actually been used, no page on this site says it was tested, and no page reports results.

Who tests
Ryan Smith, DDS, and two or three adult volunteers who snore, each with written consent. Volunteers screened with our checklist as possibly having sleep apnea are sent to a physician instead of testing a device.
What we record for each mouthpiece
- Fitting time, and whether the maker’s instructions were enough.
- How far the device moves the lower jaw forward, in millimeters, measured with calipers at each setting.
- Comfort over seven nights: drooling, dry mouth, sore teeth, and whether it stayed in.
- Morning jaw and bite notes, and how long the bite took to feel normal.
- Cleaning, and how the return or trial actually worked.
Snoring results
We report snoring changes only for testers who snore, using before-and-after recordings from a snoring app. Each result is one person’s experience, labeled that way, never proof that a device works for you. The evidence for each kind of device comes from studies, and every page links to them.
Photos and video
Every product is photographed the same way, on one surface in one light, by us. We never present a maker’s photos as our own testing. Each tested mouthpiece gets a short fitting video.
How picks are chosen
Picks follow fit and evidence: who the device suits, how it adjusts, its FDA clearance, and its return window. What a brand pays us never decides a pick. Each month we flag any pick that happens to be the highest payer in its group so the choice gets a second look.
